Financial Crises and Financial Re-Regulation in Historical Perspective

Dr Luca Einaudi (CHE, Cambridge & Harvard)

The 2007-2009 financial crisis in historical perspective: The research is centred on an analysis of governmental responses to the 2007-2009 crisis, with a special focus on international cooperation and the birth of the G20. The process of international summits is studied, also considering the interrelation between economic forecasts and analysis of the time and policymaking decisions. An historical perspective is adopted, examining some previous key episodes of failed or successful international cooperation against crisis, (the 1933 London conference, Bretton Woods), and exploring the role of historical memory in shaping the responses in 2007-2009, drawing also on the author’s direct experience of G8-G20 policy making.
